The Bendheim Gallery
The flowers’ studies presented in this exhibition explore color as a source of vitality and renewal, particularly meaningful at this time of year. The exhibition was conceived as an immersive experience, inviting viewers into a space where the presence of flowers conveys warmth, comfort, and quiet strength.
Color functions as both subject and structure within these works, generating a sense of energy that encourages reflection and resilience. Collectively, the artworks exemplify vibrancy and movement, surrounding us with expansive fields of color and life.
Whether experienced briefly or over an extended visit, the exhibition offers an opportunity to pause and engage with the restorative qualities of color, leaving visitors with a lasting sense of positivity and renewal.
Floral Conversations
by Toby Sue Gordon
at the Bendheim Gallery
January 15 - February 26, 2026
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 15 | 5:30-7:30PM
Toby Sue Gordon is a professional artist known for her robust oil paintings of natural phenomena that portray a unique perspective on an age-old subject.
Her recent passion is transforming the simple subject of flowers into vibrant, expressive pieces that engage the viewer's senses and emotions. Concentrating on elements of the flowers, rather than their whole, she sets bold colors against subtle contrasts and focuses on different angles, often on large surfaces, to portray nearly hidden beauty and details.
Toby has worked as an artist throughout her lifetime. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University's School of Visual and Performing Arts in 1988. After working as an art director for several companies in the fashion industry, Toby joined her father in the textile business where she expanded her knowledge of color, design, and composition. She lives and works in Riverside, Connecticut.
