The Art of Bing: An Evolution
Work by Marian “Bing” Bingham
Evolution = A process of development
(latin: unrolling, opening)
Marian “Bing” Bingham was born in California and currently lives and creates her art in Greenwich, Connecticut. The importance of Asian and European art became a visual movement in her artistic expression thanks to her parents and life-long travels.
Her work has evolved from disciplined forms, such as strictly realistic, impressionistic or Chinese styles, to a synthesis of various disciplines. Reflecting on a lifetime of artmaking, Bing has been amazed by both the changes and the consistencies throughout her work. Ongoing voices and topics of exploration – the horse, nature, colors, places – have come together to create a surrealist, dreamlike oeuvre.
Bing has utilized various mediums, all lending themselves to her intended message. The immediacy of Chinese brush, the clear colors of pastel, the softness of watercolors, and the permanence of oil all offer a different voice, as though they are each an instrument in an orchestra. What interests Bing is the possibility of taking the expressive parts of each method and bringing them together.
Ultimately, Bing’s wish is for the viewer to take away a sense of wonder. To notice the world in a different way. To see horses in clouds.
